THE VARIOUS COMPANIES
There are four possibilities to connect the island by boat from the mainland:
» Raja Ferry (ferry boat), from Donsak
» Songserm (express boat), from Suratthani, Ta Tong's pier
» Night boat from Suratthani, Bandon
» Seatran, a new connection between Suratthani (Bandon) and Donsak
Donsak's pier
Raja Ferry's boats leave from Donsak's port which is about 70 kilometres south of Suratthani (about 1 hour by bus).
Crossing
The crossing from Donsak to Koh Samui lasts approximately 1.15 hours and you arrive at about 5 kilometres south of Nathon town.
If you came by bus, you get back into the bus which will drive you to Nathon or then you have your luggages back and ride a taxi,
but depending on time (end of day), they are not always available, but you will always find a private car which will be able
to lead you where you want by discussing the fare before.
The "beaters"
On ferry boats, during low season mainly, there are "beaters" (who are moreover often very friendly) working for various resorts or bungalows, if there is
one of them who beahaves properly towards you (about bungalows...), nothing prevents you from choosing and visiting one, furthermore
he/she will transport you for free (as a rule) to your choosen accommodation.
Coming with your own vehicle
If you come with your car, go to the pier at least 1 hour before wished departure, during public holidays, come at
least 3 hours before.
Speedboats
Apart from the big companies, there also are connections between islands by speedboats, more expensive, but very fast, make enquiries about them at travel agencies.

NIGHT BOAT
A nice means
Connections with night boats are made from Suratthani, at Bandon, and at Nathon's port from Samui.
This crossing lasts approximately 5 to 5.30 hours, but there are common couchettes for travellers. This solution can avoid you sleeping in Suratthani if
you arrive there at the end of the day.
An advice, do not come at the last minute before departure, because there will be no more beds available for you,
and you might sleep on the deck, foresee a small rug.
This means to go to Samui is especially utilized by locals and
the boat is filled with fruits, vegetables, drinks, motorcycles etc. it is moreover the first connection which was started
for islands, a long time before the arrival of tourists...
Both Bandon and Nathon ports have a market where you will be able to drink and eat before the crossing.
